June 23rd, 2012: Celebrity Picks (Kate Winslet)

CELEBRITIES PICKS: KATE WINSLET

What's the first thing that pops into your mind when you hear the words Kate Winslet?  Titanic?  Leonardo DiCaprio?  Actress?  Good choices, I admit, but I have always admired Kate for her talent.  In my opinion, Kate is THE MOST talented actress of our generation, possibly even ever.  Kate knows how to slip into her characters with such ease.  The most beautiful thing- aside from her acting- about Kate is her elegance.  Kate holds a high position in Hollywood from being poised and graceful from her taste in fashion to even her manner of speech.

The most memorable thing about Kate is her role as Rose in Titanic, no denying there.  It's what started her career, and she recognizes that.  But the thing I notice about Kate in the film is that her countenance can belong in any era.  She belonged in 1912 when she starred in Titanic.  She belonged in the Regency Era when she starred in Sense and Sensibility.  She belonged in her most recent role in Mildred Pierce in the 1940's as a struggling mother.  And because of this attribute she possesses, any dress Kate wears becomes her.

The 2009 Oscars were the most memorable for me mostly because of Kate's appearance at the red carpet.  Not only did she win that Oscar, she also looked utterly stunning in her attire.  I cried along with Kate that year as she looked for her parents in the crowd when she accepted her award.  It was a beautiful moment for me mostly because I admire Kate a lot, and I've always said, if I could be an actress, I would want to be just like Kate Winslet.  Why?  Because people like for what she's really there for: her acting.  She lives a very private life for a celebrity (Which I completely admire, except when looking for everyday outfits because she doesn't go out to be photographed in her normal clothes, but hey, I support her 100%).

Kate's style in dresses tends to be simple, elegant, and neutral.  She has great breasts, and this shows because she wears a lot of dresses that enhances these factors.  The other thing to note is that she mostly sticks to more soft colors: blues, blacks, whites, tans.  In her younger days, she was more daring in her colors in a flashy red or electric blue, but in the past four years or so, she has been toning down her colors.  Kate dresses her age; I don't believe she's ashamed at all of her age.  I find Kate to be very self-confident and comfortable in her body.  She's aware of her abilities as well as her appearance.  She's a great role model for qualities such as confidence and class.

Kate is also very involved in her foundation, The Golden Hat Foundation which is an organization for children and parents of children who have autism.  If you'd like to find out more, Kate has recently written a book called "The Golden Hat: Talking Back To Austim" or you can visit her website at http://www.goldenhatfoundation.org/.

“The comfort factor is all about the dress for me. I’m lucky to go in and out at the right places, proportionately that’s something I inherited from my mother. I enjoy my shape and my curves. At the same time, you have to know how to dress. If you are hippy, then pleats off the waist? Forget it! You absolutely cannot wear them. It’s about knowing how to work with the right fabric.”- Kate Winslet (on picking a dress for her body type).
