Celebrity Picks: Kerli
Sorry I've been lacking in my writing on the blog, but I've been on vacation in Nova Scotia. I promise I will do a special on the outfits for the trip and some tips for the road.
Anyways, I thought for my celebrity pick, I'd choose Kerli because despite her odd influences in fashion, I actually enjoy her style. I have often found Kerli to be the gothic Lady Gaga. In a sense, she's the new Amy Lee in the league of gothics. Her outfits do display a lot of stripes, tulle, Japanese culture, skulls, and anything Victorian related. Kerli did a music video not too long ago for Tim Burton's movie, Alice In Wonderland, and she seemed to fit right in with her characters in the music video.
In my olden days, I would tried to emulate Kerli in her style. I find her to be new and exciting for the gothic world, especially with her childlike themes such as holding a teddy bear to a red carpet premiere or singing songs about dolls. Kerli can be super hardcore, but she can also be soft and angelic. She can colorful and crazy, but she can also be sweet and bright.
Kerli is special to me, at least, because we are so similar in our mindsets for outfits. We prefer to create than just to wear. She also recognizes that you make do with what you have. She states, "A lot of the things I wear I make, or have a really special meaning to me. My mom actually- because I grew up in Estonia and we didn't have a lot when I grew up- so my mom made me all my clothes."
She says the Spice Girls are her biggest influences in fashion. She looks at herself as a gothic version of a Spice Girl, which I can totally see.
Here is a blog you can follow that follows Kerli's outfits: http://stealherstyle.net/kerli/
